🎯 Aim

To use exponential decay and half-life to model the concentration of a medicine in the blood with repeated doses.

You will learn to

  • Find a half-life from data.
  • Use C = C₀ e^(−kt) with k = ln 2 ÷ half-life.
  • Explain why doses are repeated at regular times.
  • Explain the effect of a missed dose.

🧭 What to do

  1. Read the graph with a half-life of 6 h and a dose every 8 h.
  2. Change the Time between doses: does the level stay between the lines?
  3. Change the Half-life of the medicine.
  4. Choose Forget the 4th dose? Yes, and watch the level.
  5. Answer the questions with the class data.
  6. Write your conclusion and download your lab report.

📋 The data

Concentration of a fictional medicine after one dose.

🧠 Investigate: answer from the data

Type your answer and tap Check. Use 💡 Hint first; open the method only when you are stuck.

📄 My lab report

Your report collects the aim, your data table, the graphs, your answers and your conclusion. It is made on your phone or computer: nothing is sent to anyone.

Check your conclusion

The concentration falls by half every half-life (exponential decay, k = ln 2 ÷ half-life). Repeated doses build up to a steady pattern; doctors choose the dose and interval so the level stays between effective and harmful. A missed dose lets the level fall too low. In real life, always follow the doctor, the pharmacist and the label.
