Chemistry simulations

Change the variables, read the results at once and see what happens. Every simulation comes with a virtual lab: steps, a results table, a graph and questions with answers. They work on any phone, tablet or computer. All simulations are free: no payment and no account.

Acid–base titration

Titrate an unknown acid with 0.100 mol/dm³ sodium hydroxide, watch the indicator change colour and calculate the concentration.

  • Levels: S5 · S6 (also S3 · S2)
  • You measure: Titres (cm³) of 0.100 mol/dm³ NaOH; then the acid concentration.
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Rate of reaction

Drop magnesium into hydrochloric acid, collect the hydrogen and compare how fast the reaction goes when you change one factor at a time.

  • Levels: S3 · S6
  • You measure: Volume of hydrogen (cm³) against time (s); initial rate in cm³/s.
  • Time: about 30–40 min · Free

Electrolysis

Pass a current through different electrolytes, collect the products at each electrode and watch the ions move in the close-up.

  • Levels: S3 · S5 (also S2 · S6)
  • You measure: Current (A), time (s), charge Q = It (C), gas volumes (cm³) and mass of copper (mg).
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Heating and cooling curves

Heat ice until it boils, or let melted stearic acid cool, record the temperature every 30 seconds and explain the flat parts of the graph with the particle model.

  • Levels: S1 · S3
  • You measure: Temperature (°C) every 30 s; energy (kJ) and mass of water (g); then L_v in MJ/kg and the freezing point.
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Paper chromatography

Spot food colours, inks or leaf extract on a paper, let the solvent rise, then measure how far each spot moved and identify the dyes by their Rf values.

  • Levels: S1 · S5
  • You measure: Distance moved by each spot and by the solvent front (cm); then Rf values.
  • Time: about 30–40 min · Free

The mole and molar gas volume

Collect hydrogen from weighed metals, find the volume of one mole of gas, and weigh a litre of cooking gas, oxygen or carbon dioxide.

  • Levels: S2 (also S4)
  • You measure: Mass of metal (g), volume of hydrogen (cm³), and the mass of 1 dm³ of each gas (g).
  • Time: about 30–40 min · Free

Each simulation opens with its virtual lab on the same page: the steps, a results table, a graph and questions with answers. Teachers: every simulation has a “For teachers” section with expected results.
