Physics simulations

Change the variables, read the results at once and see what happens. Every simulation comes with a virtual lab: steps, a results table, a graph and questions with answers. They work on any phone, tablet or computer. All simulations are free: no payment and no account.

Simple pendulum

Swing a pendulum, time it with a light gate and use your results to measure the acceleration due to gravity, g.

  • Levels: S5 (also S1)
  • You measure: Period T (s) for different lengths; then g in m/s².
  • Time: about 30–40 min · Free

Convex lens and images

Move the lens and the white screen along the optical bench until the image is sharp, then use your u and v readings to find the focal length.

  • Levels: S3 · S4
  • You measure: Object distance u and image distance v (cm); then the focal length f.
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Electromagnetic induction

Push a magnet into a coil, watch the galvanometer kick, and discover what makes the induced emf bigger and which way it points.

  • Levels: S6 (also S3)
  • You measure: Peak induced emf (mV) for different speeds (m/s), numbers of turns and magnets.
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Heating and cooling curves

Heat ice until it boils, or let melted stearic acid cool, record the temperature every 30 seconds and explain the flat parts of the graph with the particle model.

  • Levels: S1 · S3
  • You measure: Temperature (°C) every 30 s; energy (kJ) and mass of water (g); then L_v in MJ/kg and the freezing point.
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Motion of a trolley

Let a trolley run down a sloping runway pulling a ticker-tape, cut the tape into 0.1 s strips and turn them into velocity–time graphs.

  • Levels: S1 · S2
  • You measure: Length of each 0.10 s strip (cm); then velocity (m/s) and acceleration (m/s²).
  • Time: about 35–45 min · Free

Projectile motion

Launch a ball at different angles and speeds, watch its path every 0.1 s, and find which angle throws it furthest.

  • Levels: S4 (also S2 · S1)
  • You measure: Time of flight (s), range (m) and highest point (m) for each angle, speed and height.
  • Time: about 30–40 min · Free

Uniform circular motion

Whirl a bung in a circle, time its turns, check that F = mv² ÷ r, and cut the string to see where it goes.

  • Levels: S3 · S4 (also S5 · S6)
  • You measure: Time for 10 revolutions (s), period (s), speed (m/s), Mg and mv² ÷ r (N).
  • Time: about 30–40 min · Free

Each simulation opens with its virtual lab on the same page: the steps, a results table, a graph and questions with answers. Teachers: every simulation has a “For teachers” section with expected results.
